What is Growingfruit

Our special property is truly a small piece of tropical paradise with all that one would expect from such a place including the usual suspects like Coconut palms, Bananas and all kinds of lush vegetation in all shapes and sizes. What really makes our place unique is the on going collecting of plant material that adorns the property from flowers to shrubs and trees and everything inbetween including exotic fruits like Noni, Sour Sop and Jack fruit. Other favorites surrounding the various gardens include pineapples, star apples, titi apple, plums, avocado, multiple varieties of mango, various citrus, grapes, passion fruit and guava to name just a few. We have just recently started to reforest areas that were affected by our huge excavation for our beach project with all kinds of hard woods that are native to Jamaica including Teak, Mahogany, Red Cedar and Blue Mahoe which is the national tree of Jamaica.  I have started to create a directory of plant material and provided some basics on their various uses and medicinal values.

Sour Sop – The green prickly fruit forming in various shapes and sizes up to several pounds seems to always be a crowd pleaser with it’s unique tasting flesh. The tree is an evergreen native to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. It’s comes from the same family as custard apple(also on our property), guanabana, Brazilian paw paw and cherimoya. Medicinal use for the soursop fruit and it’s tree leaves are used to treat stomach ailments, fever, parasitic infections, hypertension and rheumatism. Many claims suggest it is also a powerful cancer fighter. On your visit drink some tea made from the leaves before bed time as a nice relaxing drink. My favorite and will most likely be offered up on your visit is the blended pulp with ice and some island honey! Wicked!!! Something not only good but good for you!
